There are a lot of opinions about AI.

I have a lot of opinions in general, so consequently I have opinions about AI.

We were thrown into the deep end at work – the use of “deep end” seems particularly apt. Everyone in the company was given access to the agentic AI that we’ve subscribed to. Like, I mean: EVERYONE. Dear God. People are using it to submit tickets. Now instead of a brief request lacking detail and context, we receive walls of text that also lack the required detail and context needed to carry out the requested task. The only recourse is to point our own agent at the ticket to eke some sort of meaning out of it. I can hear you now: “GOD FORBID YOU ACTUALLY READ IT”. Fuck that! Ain’t nobody got time for that shit.

For what it’s worth, I don’t usually deign myself to dip into the ticket queue, but the ticket backlog is piling up 100+ and my manager’s getting mad. So I’m going to get paid a lot of money to close tickets.

One request came from Marketing and the gist of it was to “turn on some feature for Google Ads” in our edge computing platform that rhymes with loud hair. Okay, easy enough. Probably wasn’t worth the 5k tokens it took to write that ticket, but oh well, who am I to judge? I write back, “presto donezo, let me know if it is working your end”. Nope, not working because “setup incomplete” and a nice screen shot of dialog that says “setup incomplete”. On the platform they own. That I don’t have access to. Because they locked us out of it in a fit of “taking my ball and going home!” energy.

I communicate in the most polite terms I can that I am unable to comply. And in response, they offer to get me access to do it for them.

I glare at marketing Barbie’s request, who incidently looks like someone who maybe voted for Trump, but is most definitely fucking someone who voted for Trump. I bring this up not only to just slag on someone’s looks and choice in personal husbandry, but it really informs on how they are using AI: in the most low-effort, signal-seeking way by writing a long ass, jargon filled, 9/10ths filler of a request, but not even using that same tool to solve their own fucking problem.
